Discussion and consideration of the following:

1.         The FY 18 proposed budget

The Board discussed the possibility of instituting a program offering higher salaries to employees as an alternative to benefits.

The Board received a budget presentation from Tax Commissioner Jeff Chapman. Mr. Chapman had requested funding for four (4) new fulltime employees and two (2) part-time employees as well as funding to reclassify the positions in his office. The Budget Team had recommended funding for one fulltime employee and recommended sending the request for reclassifying positions to the Archer Company, the county’s compensation and classification contractor, for review and a recommendation.

The commissioners decided to defer the decision on funding the Tax Commissioner’s items until the next budget work session.

The commissioners indefinitely postponed Avery Brooks’ request for $15,000 for public service announcements.

The commissioners deferred to the next budget work session the decision regarding funding half of a part-time position for the Coastal African American Historic Preservation Commission (CAAHPC). Commissioner Booker asked that half the position be funded if the City of Brunswick agreed to fund the other half.

EXECUTIVE SESSION/POST EXECUTIVE SESSION ACTION

The Board did not hold an executive session during this meeting.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
