GLYNN COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Discussion and consideration of the following:

 

1.         Update on the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) projects

 

SPLOST 4:  Revenue of $89,375,891 and interest earnings of $5,683,152 received.

            Projects open in SPLOST 4:

            Olgethorpe Convention Center - There is $1,557,620 remaining in the county’s line item for this project.

                        Mayor Harvey and City Commissioner Julie Hunter were present at the meeting. The Board and city commissioners discussed the possibility of the county deeding the site of the former Winchester Building (on the corner of Bay Street and Newcastle Street) to the city for future use and using the SPLOST money for this project to add a meeting hall/convention center to the Marshes of Glynn Library (MOGL) on Gloucester Street. 

            Miscellaneous Road Improvements - $1,382,917 remaining

                        Two projects are currently open: Spur 25 extension is expected to be completed in the fall of 2015 and the Perry Lane Road at Spur 25 intersection is in the right-of-way acquisition phase.

            Storm Drain Improvements & Upgrades - $98,470

                        Hwy 17 Outfall: this project will go to bid in the fall of 2015

            Water well - $0

                        This project is now complete

            St. Simons Sports Complex Improvements - $23,568

                        All projects have been completed. Remaining funds will be reallocated.

 


 

 

SPLOST 5:  Revenue of 96,814,444 and interest earnings of $1,511,619 received.

            Projects open in SPLOST 5:

Elevated Water Tank - $67,674

            Upon completion of punch list items, this project will be complete.

Site, permit & design mainland WWTP - $4,480,647

Planning phase – This WWTP was originally planned for discharge into the Altamaha River, but may be moved to 50 acres behind Godley Road with discharge into the Buffalo River.

Sewer Line Rehabilitation - $561,795

            Planning phase

Water Line Rehabilitation - $178,599

            Planning phase

Public Works Complex Renovations – $351,503

The H Building (previously used by the Sheriff’s Office as a jail prior to the new detention center being building) is in the design phase to convert the building into work space for the Public Works department.

Sidewalks and Bike Paths - $907,821

            St. Simons Trail along Kings Way is in progress

Drainage Rehabilitation and Improvements - $3,022,243

            Kings Way outfall (South Palm Bridge) is in the planning phase.

            Buck Swamp Road, Glynco Parkway, and Ocean Boulevard are in progress

District 2 (St. Simons) – Other Improvements (Recreation) - $457,000

Development of a park on South Harrington has been identified as a project for District 2

 

2.         Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) 2016

 

            This item was not discussed.

The Board did not hold an executive session during this meeting.
