Discussion and consideration of the following:

1.         Discuss creating an advisory board to study and recommend options for repurposing the Detention Center property located at 1812 Newcastle Street.

It was the consensus of the Board to create a Detention Center Reuse Committee for the purpose of developing possible uses of the detention center building downtown once it relocates into the new Sheriff’s Complex. The Board decided to include the block across the street at I Street and J Street in the Committee’s charge.  It felt this block may be needed by the new tenant of the detention center building and wanted to have that option available.

The committee will consist of seven members to be appointed by the Board of Commissioners.

2.         Discuss the possibility of the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) using the County’s property in the I Street and J Street block for its new office space.

It was the consensus of the Board to draft a resolution supporting the possible use of the I Street and J Street block for the DFCS new office space. The resolution is non-binding and will only allow the DFCS to submit proposals to the Georgia State Properties Commission.

The DFCS building will be approximately 27,000 sq ft and have approximately 162 parking spaces including 80 to 85 for staff.

3.         Discuss the Public Works Department Master Plan

Public Works Director Becky Rowell and Robert Ussery, of Ussery-Rule Architects, presented the master plan which included an access road for the new detention center.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

The Board did not hold an executive session during this meeting.
