Discussion and consideration of the following:

1.         FY13 proposed budget

The Sheriff’s Office budget was discussed. The budget the Sheriff had submitted was much lower than the budget the staff had budgeted for that office. The Board decided to accept the budget the Sheriff had submitted, rather than the larger budget the staff had created. Staff created its budget for the Sheriff based on the actual amounts spent over the past several years. The budget the Sherriff submitted was much less. It was also decided that staff would not transfer additional funds to the Sheriff. If additional funds are needed, the Sheriff would need to go before the Board and request the budget modification. Sheriff Budget Amendments

County Administrator Alan Ours advised the Board the County may be eligible for a grant to help offset the cost of replacing the boat ramp and dock at the Blythe Island Regional Park.

The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) fund was discussed as were repairs to the bath house at the Selden Park.  Mr. Ours went through the proposed budget and explained specific items to the Board.

The Public Hearing for the proposed budget was scheduled for May 10, 2012.

Accommodation Excise Tax

2.         Presentation regarding Transportation Investment Act (TIA)

Chairman Strickland announced staff would be presenting the TIA to the Coastal Regional Commission (CRC).  The list of projects to be completed using funds from the local discretionary fund was discussed. The Board discussed creating a five-member local citizen advisory board to oversee the local projects.
