                                COUNTY, GEORGIA, HELD MONDAY, JUNE 17,

Opening  Ceremony. 

                                            

           Chairman  Smith  opened  the meeting  with  invocation, followed  by

pledge  of allegiance  to the  flag.

Beach Nourishment Project -  Executive  Meeting.

        Chairman Smith announced that he called this special meeting to

Discuss the Save the Beach Committee’s request for a hearing before

The Department of Natural Resources for the purpose of trying to

persuade DNR to revoke the permit issued by the Shore Assistance

Committee for construction of a groin in conjunction with the Beach

Nourishment Project on St. Simon’s Island.

     County Attorney Gary Moore asked the Commission for an Executive

Session  to  discuss  this  pending  litigation  as  well  as  the  County’s

options.

      A motion was made by Commissioner Hardman and seconded by

Commissioner  Boyne to go into Executive Session for the purpose of

discussing the following items:

     Save the Beach Committee’s appeal to DNR regarding the

             Beach  Nourishment Project

             Property acquisition

      Unanimously adopted.

      When the Executive Meeting was concluded, Chairman Smith

 announced to the audience that the Commission had decided to

 intervene in the appeal filed by the Save the Beach Committee to halt

construction of a groin for the Beach Nourishment Project.

Youth  Challenge Program.

        Chairman  Smith  announced that the Youth Challenge Program had

drawn to a close,  and the groups and individuals in charge wanted

permission to present awards which would not exceed $1,000.oo to the

participants of this program at the Regular Commission Meeting to be

held Thursday evening.

          The Commission approved this presentation.

Main Street Brunswick to Hold Meeting in Courthouse.

A motion was made by Commissioner Pate and seconded by

Commissioner  Hardman approving request of Main Street Brunswick to

hold a state-wide Main Street Meeting in the Commission Meeting Room

on Saturday,  June 21,  with  to  be  submitted  by  the  County  to

said group for three hours overtime required by County Staff Persons

to keep the Courthouse open for that meeting .

        Unanimously adopted.  (Commissioner Moore was not present for

this vote)

         A motion was made by Commissioner Pate and seconded by

Commisssioner  Dismer to adjourn the Called Meeting.

         Unanimously adopted. (Commissioner Moore was not present for

this vote)
