28 Days Later..... a Primary Runoff

You waited all Spring for the Primary.  You’ve received so much political mail, you’re considering paper mâché.  You showed up at the polls and proudly wore your Georgia Peach sticker.  You heard victory speeches on Election Night.

Then, you woke up Wednesday morning to find out you’re not quite done-there’s going to be a runoff.

Round Two is the General Primary Runoff happening on June 21, 2022.  A runoff happens when no candidate receives 50% plus 1 of the vote.   Primaries often result in a runoff because some races have many candidates.  In this Primary Runoff, there will be races from both party ballots.   Non-partisan races will not be on the Primary Runoff ballot.  Sample ballots will be available to help you see which races and candidates will be in this Primary Runoff.

Can I Vote in This Primary Runoff?

Because both parties are having a primary runoff, all Glynn County qualified voters registered by May 23 will be able to cast a vote in this election.  Even if you did not vote in the Primary, you can vote in the Primary Runoff.

Locally, this will be a federal runoff because the race for US House District 1 is on the ballot.   This means federal voter registration deadlines apply.  Any eligible citizen who submitted a correct and timely registration by May 23 will be allowed to vote in this election no matter where they voted in the primary.

Please note, if you have updated your registration since the Primary, you may be voting in a different location.  The Georgia My Voter Page can help you determine your registration status and poll location.

Which Party Ballot Can I Choose?

This can be confusing.   If you voted in the Primary and selected a Democrat or Republican ballot, you will only be eligible to vote that party’s ballot in the Primary Runoff.  If you voted in the Primary but selected the Non-Partisan ballot only, you will be able to choose either ballot in the Primary Runoff.

If you did not vote in the original Primary, you will be able to choose either ballot in the Primary Runoff.

When Can I Vote?

We try to start early voting and absentee ballot mailing as soon as possible.  It can take several days for the State to give us the election materials needed to test the voting machines and produce ballots.  There will be at least one week of early voting before the election, but our goal is to open sooner.

What’s Next?

Keep an eye out for important dates about logic & accuracy testing, Early Voting, sample ballots and other election announcements.  Sample ballots are available here: https://www.glynncounty.org/2013/Sample-Ballots.  Information will be posted as notices in the newspaper, on our website, in County NewFlash subscriptions, and in social media.  If you have questions about the upcoming Primary Runoff, please contact our office.
