
Glynn County Fire-Rescue’s water rescue unit consists of 15 firefighters who have undergone Red Cross certification in open water rescue. Additionally, unit leaders have completed a training course on using Jet Skis and small craft in nearshore rescue operations. The course was conducted by trainers with the St. Johns (Fla.) County Fire Department, which has its own established water rescue unit.
Glynn County Fire Rescue’s Water Rescue Unit is based at county fire station No. 2 on Demere Road on St. Simons Island. At least two members of the unit are on duty at all times.
Glynn County Fire-Rescue’s Water Rescue has averaged approximately 28 calls per year over the last two years.
